"She [Eri] is the class president who acts like an older sister. Her parents are very influential in town. Her dad is the mayor of Mabase." - Character profile from FLCL DVD Vol 2.

So, that's the basics of Eri. But who is Eri?

Eri's a classmate of Naota's (Takkun), both of whom are in sixth grade, which would make them about eleven or twelve years old. Unlike the rest of her classmates, Eri acts very much like an adult and definitely has a bit of a chip on her shoulder, seeing herself as much more mature than the rest of her classmates. Yet for all the effort she puts forth into playing the part of the perfect daughter and class president, she's much more insecure than she lets on. When her father's affair is outed publicly by Naota's father, she puts on a stoic dispoition in school, yet immediately afterward tries to run away (and drag Naota with her).

In addition to playing the part of little miss perfect, she manipulates the position to get what she wants, knowing there's no way anyone would suspect or catch her. When the class votes to put on the play, "Puss In Boots," she rigs the voting so that she can play the lead and Naota can play the cat. No one suspects anything until she outright tells him she rigged the voting, more than a little proud of herself for her deception.

Over the course of the series, Eri realizes she can't always be perfect or have the perfect life. In episode 6, she finally tells her parents what's on her mind. In the end, she appears to have let some of her neurotic tendencies go and opens up more to her classmates. One thing she never tires of, however, is giving Naota a hard time.

Eri is voiced in Japanese by Mika Ito, and in English by Heather Lee Joelson.

Eri's relationships are about as complicated as you'd expect from a sixth grader. Though she lives in a town in which nothing is really ever normal, she does her best to conduct herself as such, and her relationships are a reflection of this.

Naota, Haruko, Mamimi: If you haven't guessed by now, Ninamo has quite the crush on Naota, and does everything she can to bring the two of them closer together, the most obvious of which was her rigging of the school play. Yet for all the obvious things she did, it's the little things that make the relationship more interesting. She carries an obvious distate for Mamimi, and an outright jealousy of Haruko for their proximity to Naota. She sneers at Mamimi in episode 2, and stares with apparent disgust as Haruko gets Naota in a headlock in episode 5 while squirting him with the water gun. Later, however, she's seen looking discontent as she asks Gaku and Masashi if they think Haruko and Naota are dating.

Gaku & Masashi: Speaking of Gaku and Masashi, she's seen driving around with them as they do deliveries in Masashi's dad's truck, as he has a job as a delivery boy. It might appear that her relationship with them is superficial, but it is to them that she first admits speaking to her parents about their problems and their effect on her.
